Bushdoof App Privacy

This page covers the Bushdoof lighting app for iPhone and Android. The app has two parts that work very differently: the Bluetooth lighting controller, and the Shop tab. Our storefront privacy policy covers the website in full, and you can read it here.

The short version

The Bluetooth lighting controller part of the app collects nothing about you. There is no account, no sign-up and no email address needed to pair and run your lights. The Shop tab is a different story: it opens our real website, bushdoof.co, inside the app, and if you browse, log in or buy there we collect the same information we would through a normal browser. The two sections below explain each part honestly.

The lighting controller: Bluetooth only, nothing sent to us

So it can reconnect to your lights without asking again, the app keeps a short list on your phone:

  • Which controllers you have paired, and the Bluetooth ID your phone uses to find each one
  • Which product each controller runs, so it shows the right picture
  • Any name you have given a controller, such as "front whip"
  • The last colour and brightness you set

All of that lives in the app's own storage on your device. It is not uploaded, backed up to us, or shared. Delete the app and it goes with it. There is no Bushdoof server involved in any of this, and this part of the app does not know who you are.

Why the app asks for Bluetooth

Bluetooth is how the app talks to your lighting controllers. It is used only to find your controllers and send colour, brightness and mode commands to them. The app does not read other Bluetooth devices around you, and it does not log or transmit anything it sees while scanning. Commands travel directly from your phone to the controller on the vehicle. They never pass through the internet.

Why Android also asks for location

On Android, Google requires an app to hold location permission before it is allowed to scan for Bluetooth Low Energy devices at all. That is a rule of the Android platform, not something Bushdoof needs. The lighting controller part of the app never reads your location, never stores it and never sends it anywhere. iPhone does not have this requirement, so the app does not ask for location on iOS.

The Shop tab: our website, inside the app

The Shop tab loads the real bushdoof.co store inside the app, the same store you can reach in a browser. When you browse, create an account, log in or place an order through the Shop tab, we collect information in order to run the store, the same way we would if you used bushdoof.co in your phone's browser. Depending on what you do, that can include:

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • Your physical address (for delivery)
  • Your phone number
  • Payment information, handled by our checkout provider, Shopify
  • Your purchase history
  • How you interact with the app and site (pages viewed, features used)
  • Device or other identifiers (such as your device type and app version)

We use this information to process and deliver your order, provide customer support, and run the store. Payment itself is handled by Shopify's checkout; we do not see or store your full card details.

Analytics and advertising

Information about how you interact with the Shop tab, and device or other identifiers, is also shared with the analytics and advertising tools our website runs on: Shopify, Klaviyo, Meta, TikTok, Snapchat and Microsoft Clarity. This helps us understand how the store is used and show relevant ads. We do not share your name, email, address, phone number, payment information or purchase history with these providers for advertising purposes.

All information collected through the Shop tab is encrypted in transit.

Children

The app is a tool for controlling vehicle lighting and browsing our store, and is suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the Shop tab.

Access and deletion

For the lighting controller part of the app, we hold no data about your use of it, so there is nothing for us to show you, correct or delete. To remove everything it has stored, delete the app from your phone, or remove each controller from within the app without uninstalling.

For anything collected through the Shop tab (your account, order history or other personal information), email info@bushdoof.co to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your information, and we will action it.

Changes to this page

If a future version of the app changes how it handles information, this page is updated before that version is released, and the date at the top changes with it.
