76 & 78 Series Tail Light Installation Guide
Important Notes
Professional installation recommended.
Test tail lights and wiring prior to installation.
Overview:
Our Bushdoof Plug & Play Tail Lights for the Toyota LandCruiser 76 and 78 Series are a full LED replacement for the factory units, using the factory mounting points and connectors. The 76 Series Wagon runs functional factory tail lights, so these plug straight in. Some Australian-delivered 76 and 78 Series setups (including rear-bar arrangements on the 78 Troop Carrier) may need minor wiring adjustments to pick up all functions if your vehicle differs.
What you'll need:
- Phillips screwdriver
- Trim removal tools (if required)
- Socket set
- Electrical tape
- Zip ties
- Multimeter (optional)
- Wire strippers and crimp connectors or solder (only if minor wiring is required)
Wire Colour Reference
- Green - Park light and start-up animation
- Yellow - Indicator
- Red - Brake
- White - Reverse
- Grey - Not used
Step 1: Remove Factory Tail Lights
- Check packaging contents, you should have 2x Bushdoof Tail Lights (Left + Right) and the wiring harness.
- Access the rear to reach the tail light mounting screws.
- Remove the screws securing each factory tail light.
- Pull the tail light straight backward to release it.
- Disconnect the factory plug.
- Ensure no clips, seals, or mounts are damaged during removal.
Step 2: Prepare & Route Wiring
- Connect the new Bushdoof tail light to the factory plug. On most 76 and 78 Series this is a direct plug-and-play connection.
- If your vehicle does not feed a function directly (some rear-bar 78 setups), run power up to that input and match it to the colour reference above.
- Secure the wiring with zip ties, clear of sharp edges and moving parts.
Step 3: Install Bushdoof Tail Lights
- Position the new tail light onto the vehicle and seat it correctly.
- Reinstall the screws and tighten securely.
- Ensure the housing sits flush against the body.
- Repeat for the opposite side.
Step 4: Test
- Turn the vehicle on and check all lighting functions:
Tail/Park, Brake, Indicator, Reverse, and Hazard lights. - Ensure all functions operate correctly with no dash warnings.
- Confirm all connections are secure and insulated.
